Winifred Anne Vaughn (1935-2017)
Vaughn, Winifred Anne, "Winnie," 82, of Kettering, died November 29, 2017 at Miami Valley Hospital.
She was born in Rochester, NY on October 8, 1935 to parents Fred and Laura Agnes (St. Clair) Dean.
Winnie graduated from Allegheny College and worked as an elementary school teacher for many years in the Kettering and Oakwood districts.
Winnie is survived by her daughter Beth (Bob) Barge of Fishers, IN and son Scott (Kristina) Graham of Beaver, PA. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Andrew, Anna and Grace Barge, Jessica Woodson, and Emerson and Ian (Sarah) Graham. Also surviving are brothers Allan, Bruce (Nancy) and Robert (Nancy) Dean, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, many of whom she would joyfully gather with for family reunions and Christmas dinners.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dean Vaughn, brothers Paul (Dagmar), Byron (Lauretta), and Fred (Lorraine), and sisters Agnes (Bernard) and Florence (Donald), as well as sisters-in-law Ruth and Josephine.
Winnie loved her siblings and extended family, and was a faithful supporter and contributor to a 'family letter' that blessed the Dean family for several decades.
Winnie was an elder, a deacon, and an active member of Presbyterian Women at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton for many years. She served on mission trips to locations all over the United States, and volunteered as a teacher for a year at John Hyson Elementary, Chimayo, NM. She was also active in volunteer missions for several years with the Heifer Project International, and with husband Dean promoted their ministry across the Dayton area. This ministry included a trip to China, as well as lengthy volunteer stints in Arkansas, Indiana, Alaska and California.
Winnie also maintained an active membership in Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). She loved music, mission, children and people of all cultures, as well as her family and her Lord. She will be dearly missed.
