Winifred Jean Stukenborg
January 11, 1929 — August 11, 2019
Winifred J. Stukenborg (Winnie) left us on August 11, 2019. Winnie was born to Martha Sielman and William Tootle on January 11, 1929 in Dayton, Ohio.
Winnie graduated from Kiser High School and worked for the Kroger Company during her high school years. She met her husband Gregor F. Stukenborg while working in north Dayton together and they were married at Holy Rosary church on November 13, 1948. They had a wonderful life together and lived a happy and full life raising six children.
Winnie spent over 40 years of her life working for the Rike's and Beerman's department stores, mainly in the shoe department where she made many friends. Everyone knew Winnie as one of the hardest workers up until she was 83 years old. She didn't have to work, but loved being around others and loved shopping for her children and grand-children. We always joked that when she left these stores that they would no longer be able to survive! And indeed, they both closed after she left!
Winnie had a love for horses that carried on throughout her life. She would walk miles to the Dayton fairground to watch and care for the horses. She had a collection of horse items that she loved dearly from drawings from her grandchildren to statues, jewelry and derby glasses.
Our mom was an amazing role model who was selfless and never said a bad word about anyone. She was a girl scout leader, school volunteer during fund raisers and worked as the volunteer school librarian. She came to our sports events and to all her grandchildren's as well. She was a caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as well as gracious aunt, godmother, sister and friend. Mom was the most amazing, considerate, calm and beautiful mother there was. Hands down.
Winnie's husband Gregor preceded her in death, along with many friends and family. She will be missed by her children, Carol, Debby Stuart (Bob), Gregory (Pam), Nancy Hambright (Jim), Mark and Theresa. Along with her sisters Barbara Marlin (Denver) and Judy Koehler, Brother in law John Stukenborg (Jean) and many nieces and nephews. She also has seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Winnie will be forever in our hearts.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Elmcroft, The Sanctuary and Hospice.
A private service and burial were held at the Woodland Cemetery in Dayton.
