Winifred Rae "Winnie" Lawson née Began, age 85, of Kettering, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born January 1, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Augustus and Mary Began. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her very dear grandma Rosa; step-father George Goodpastor; brother, Stanley; sister, Genevieve and niece, Cathy.
Winnie took great pride in being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, glowing with a fierce love for her family. She is survived by her loving husband Dick, who filled their 66 years together with laughter, devotion, hard work and love. Together they treasured their three sons, Michael (Ellen) Lawson, Kevin (Cathy) Lawson and Eric (Natalie) Lawson; as well as their eight grandchildren, Sarah, Caleb, Michaela, Simon, Noah, Ciara, Gabriel (Elizabeth) and Carly, and great-granddaughter, Frankie Leigh. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley; four nieces, Linda, DeeDee, Becky, and Marsha; and her nephew, Art.
From Ohio to Florida, South Carolina and back, Winnie sowed her volunteer seeds to enhance the lives of others through her dedication to the Adult Literacy Program, After-School Tutoring, Senior Citizen Activities, Church Choir, and Kettering Health Cancer Center. When she wasn't helping others she enjoyed seasonal crafts, but most especially she loved to paint and play the organ.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Pink Ribbon Girls.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 415 North Main Street, Springboro, OH 45066 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m.
