Winfred Rex McKnight, age 75, of Dayton, passed away on Tuesday August 16, 2011. He was born on February 13, 1936 in Calvin, VA, to the late James and Beatrice McKnight. In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lauren McKnight.
Rex is survived by his three children, Renae (John) Preston, Kevin (Jayne) McKnight and Todd (Breanne) McKnight; five grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan, Jessica, Benjamin and Brock; one sister, Jolene Laffey; three nieces, Kim, Connie and Melissa; special cousin and friend, Sherri and Daryl Poteet; special friend Andy Thompson; and a host of other family members and good friends.
Rex honorably served his country in the United States Air Force with the 54th Weather Recon, which allowed him to fly thousands of miles all over the world. He served as a police officer in Kingsport, TN. Rex worked for 33 years in management at Chrysler Corporation in Dayton, OH. He spoke often of his career at Chrysler where he made many good friends and has many great memories. Rex was a baptized member of The House of Prayer Church in Beavercreek, OH.
A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday August 24, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd. A memorial ceremony will take place on Thursday August 25, 2011 at 10:00 am at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, 8200 West National Rd, New Carlisle, OH. Foster Akers to officiate. Burial to take place at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rex's honor to The Hospice of Dayton.
