Willie Lee Melton also known as Bill Melton, age 73, a retired truck driver , died at home in Springfield,Ohio on April 8, 2010, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on September 18, 1936, in the town of Albany, Kentucky to the late Shelby Marvin and Laura Betty (Ferguson) Melton. Willie proudly served in the Navy and was stationed in the Mediterranean .He was also a member of VFW and contributed to the Disabled Veterans Association. . A faithful sponsor of the St. Labre Indian School and St. Josephs Indian School. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing with family and friends. He loved being with people and he loved all children and they loved Willie.
He was preceded in death by first wife Lola Frances Fraley, Stepmother Georgia Melton, and sisters Alice Brand and Rita Bolen. He was the Beloved Husband of Irma Freeze Melton (Durst). Loving father to Doug Melton of Dayton, Pam Sweat (Melton) and William Sweat of New Carlisle, Loretta Adams (Rollins) and Michael Adams, Tammy Rollins, Teresa Alcorn (Rollins), Pamela Rollins, Sherry McClannahan (Rollins) and Robert McClannahan, all of Springfield, Ohio. Devoted brother to Pat Rednour and wife Polly, Gene Melton and wife Nancy, Morris Mcmillian, Jimmy Melton, Betty Bolen, Mary Fulton, Katherine Randolph, and Jenny Rednour. Affectionate and loving grandpa to 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends all whom he loved and cherished. Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Friday April 16, 2010 at Jesus Only Church, 532 Kinnane Ave, Springfield Ohio 45505. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00PM Thursday April 15, 2010 at the church. A private burial will be held by the family.
