William Jefferson Ward

William Jefferson Ward, 77, of Dayton, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 24, 2020.

He was born October 8, 1942 in Ecorse, MI to the late Walter and Lena (Daniels) Ward. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Walter Ward, Jr, Johnnie Ward, 2 nephews, Spencer Peaco, Steven Swackhamer, his brother-in-law and friend, Arthur Arnett and his grandchild.

William is survived by his beloved family: his wife of 50 years, Doris (Arnett) Ward; his daughter, Janet Ward (Scott) Fink; his grandsons, Cameron Ward, Colten Fink; 2 sisters, Emma Peaco, Linda Ward, along with many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

William was a kind soul with an infectious smile. He never met anyone he didn't like and connect with. He was a dedicated family man who loved his family more than anything. William loved to volunteer especially at the Village of Gettysburg where he was active in the Lions Club, the community festival, the village council as well as being a little league umpire. William also delivered the daily newspaper in Darke County for many years and no matter rain, sleet or snow he never missed a day.

William was deeply loved by his family and all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020 from 5:00 pm until time of service at 7:00 pm at Newcomer Kettering Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd.
