William A. Umphrey Jr., "Bill," age 95 of Dayton, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017. He was born November 5, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of the late William and Nell Umphrey Sr..
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and Larry Umphrey; step-son, Greg Hermann.
Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years; Dorothy Susong Umphrey; sons, Bill (Cami) Umphrey, Mark (Sherri) Umphrey; Brian (Tammy) Umphrey; step-daughter, Leslie (Danny) Hensley; grandchildren, Jesse (Olivia), Josh (Jordan), Joey, Kim, A.J., Brittany; great granddaughter, Julianna; as well as numerous other loving relatives.
Bill was a WWII vet of Normandy and a Purple Heart recipient. He was the former owner of Overhead Door of Dayton and an employee of Jayne's Sheet Metal.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - North Chapel (4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45424). Funeral service will begin at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens with military honors.
