William Allen Spinks, age 65 of Riverside, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 5, 1953 in Middletown, Ohio the son of the late William E. and Anna (Tackett) Spinks.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his father-in-law, George Schaeff and sisters, Edna and Betty.
William is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joanie M. (Schaeff) Spinks; children, Nick A. (Brooke) Spinks and Jennifer E. (Joshua) Spinks-Pottenger; grandchildren, Gwyneth, Nicholas, Reed and Holly; mother-in-law, Betty Schaeff; brother-in-law, Tom (Sandi) Schaeff and brothers, Vernon and David (Lucy) Spinks as well as many other extended family members and friends.
Bill was a 1972 graduate of Miamisburg High School where he participated on the wrestling team. Bill honorably served in the US Army, Army Reserve and Ohio National Guard, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. He also graduated in 1981 from ITT with a degree in electronics. Bill retired in 2016 as a product specialist from Defense Logistics Agency, Columbus after a 35-year career in civil service. He was a member of Greene County Fish and Game, Xenia and a dedicated member of East Dayton Christian Church, whose members and staff walked this journey with him. He also was an avid supporter of Hospice of Dayton who provided him and his family extraordinary care. Bill enjoyed many past-times including bowling, fishing, gardening, cooking and following local sports teams. Bill will always be remembered as having a unique sense of humor, never knowing a stranger and a man who always did things on his own terms.
Family will receive guests from 5:00-8:00pm Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering. Funeral service will begin 10:00 am Thursday, September 13, 2018 also at the funeral home followed by procession to Miami Valley Memory Gardens, Centerville for burial and military honors.
