William Russell Slaght, age 79, departed this life July 19, 2022. He was born in Chicago February 3, 1943 to Homer and Pat (Lynch) Slaght.
Russ attended schools in Clinton and Knoxville, TN and moved with his family to Ohio at age 16. It was in New Lebanon, Ohio he built a life of love for his family.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Hallie "Jo" (Lynch) McDonald; sisters Mary Joe Richardson and Louise McGhee; brother Harry "Butch" Slaght; and a great-grandson, Cameron McIntosh.
Survived by his wife of 60 years Phyllis (Riley) Slaght; daughter Nickie McIntosh, son Kirk (Lori) Slaght; grandchildren Brent McIntosh, Randi McIntosh Ford, Tommy (Sally) and Christopher (Anna) Slaght. Great grandchildren Caleb and Nathan McIntosh, Mason and Jordan Ford, Kathleen, Patrick and Jesse Townsend, Josh, Katie, Megan and Russell Slaght; Kylee, Kendra, and Kierra Stanley; nephews Paul, Marc, Doug and great-nephew, Jeremy (Amanda) McGhee.
He was a great family man who led by example to anyone who knew him. Russ wasn't a man of many words but his words held great weight as they would often be wisdom and lessons that were needed in the moments he spoke them. His devotion and love of family and friends is a small part of his legacy that will continue to live on through all who knew him.
