William David "Dave" Nilson

William David "Dave" Nilson, passed away on his 77th birthday, July 8, 2024. He was born in Oak Ridge, TN, to Ruth (McDonald) Nilson, deceased and William H. Nilson, deceased. 

When he was in 7th grade, his family moved to Germantown, OH, to open a new restaurant. By the time he was 15 years old, he was playing drums professionally and continued playing for 50 years. Dave was drafted and proudly served in Vietnam from 1967-1968. 

Later, he had training as a florist and made beautiful flower arrangements. He left the floral business to go to Sinclair College and eventually co-op'd at WPAFB where he then worked full time as an Electronics Technician. Being a very creative person, he was well-suited for the job. He retired with his wife, Linda, on June 3, 2009. Dave and Linda (Ledbetter) Nilson were married for 48 years. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sisters: Alice Swank and Sue Johnson as well as his 2 sons: Mike Nilson and Jonathan Nilson. His daughter, Melissa Nilson, preceded him in death. Dave is also survived by 13 grandchildren and other family members.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 4-7 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road.
