William "Pappy" Lewis
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle & friend went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
Bill was an accomplished mechanic and applied those skills to his many auto racing awards, including the Dick Freeman Memorial 2003, Shady Bowl Speedway Outstanding Service Award 1997, Kil-Kare Speedway Mechanic Gold Wrench Award 1992 and many Track Championships. He was a proud original member, of D.A.R.F. (Dayton Auto Race Fan Club), and Sears Retiree Club.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita (Hicks) Lewis; his parents, Ruben & Ethel May (Jackson) Lewis; four brothers, Jessie, Ruben Jr., Charles (Ruby) & Marvin (Dorothy); and by one sister, Martha Lehman.
Bill is survived by his wife, Lois Jackson; six children, James (Jackie) Lewis, Ronald (Gloria) Lewis, Brenda (Bill) Mullins, Rick (Jan) Lewis, Barbara (Austin) Alcorn, Beverly Lewis; three step-children, Donald (Martha) Jackson, Diana (Allen) Hall & Jackie (Steve) Pennington; "adopted daughter" Kathy Rose & Fred; 27 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Dean (J.C.) Richardson; brother-in-law, Jim Lehman; sisters-in-law, Edith Lewis, Addie Ruth Lewis & Sue Lewis; and by his extended family & many good friends.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday (7/28) at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Stanforth officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Trotwood, Ohio.
