William "Dan" Kelly passed from this earthly life on September 10, 2007, at Hospice of Dayton, following a short, but valiant fight with leukemia. Born in Dayton, Ohio, on November 2, 1936, to William G. and Wilmuth E. Kelly (Bill and Billie), Dan was a 1955 Wilbur Wright graduate, who spent his working life at Mad River Township, the NCR, self-employed with W. K. Excavating, and retiring from the City of Dayton as a Construction Inspector on April 30, 2002. Preceded in death by his first wife Harriette in 1968, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kaye (Sims), a daughter, Cara (and Jeff) Anderson, three grandchildren; three sons: William Christopher (and Terri), four grandchildren; Grant (and Mary), four grandchildren; Patrick (and Nicole), four grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Ben (and Delores Jean) Kelly, three nieces and one nephew, 11 grand nieces and nephews, along with one brother-in-law, Greg (and Patti) of FL, two nieces, his father-in-law, Harlan Sims, and many cousins whom he loved. Dan was an active member of the East Dayton Church of the Brethren, where he often served as Morning Worship Leader, and sang "The Seven Last Words of Christ" for many years with the Ecumenical Choir during the Good Friday service there. He was an avid hunter and golfer, especially proud of his hole-in-one at the Beavercreek Golf Club in 1997. The family would like to thank the many health care professionals for their loving care of Dan during his illness, along with the all of those friends who offered support of prayer and love.
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Saturday, September 15, 2007 at East Dayton Church of the Brethren, 3520 East Third St. Rev. Richard Shockney officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00PM Friday September 14, 2007 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd. Burial will follow services at Mt. Zion Shoup Cemetery.
