William John Homan

November 20, 1939 — September 22, 2021

William John Homan "Bill", age 81, of Dayton, passed away September 22, 2021.

He was born November 20, 1939 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Carl J. and Viola (Dilling) Homan. Bill graduated from Stebbins High School where he won an award for Aviation and Aeronautics. During his younger years he was known for his love of water skiing. He went on to join the Air Force in 1961 after graduating high school. He then married the love of his life, Margaret Meece that same year. He was stationed in Bangor, Maine where they started their family. After his years of honorable service he and his family came back to his hometown of Dayton. Bill worked at Inland Division of GM retiring after 21 years of service. He was a longtime member of Dayton Gospel Temple where he wore many hats: head usher, Pastor Council Board of Deacons, Senior Commander of the Royal Rangers program, Sunday School teacher, Bus Driver for the elderly and even humble enough to clean the church a time or two.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret, his siblings, Ruby Roberson, Ruth Atkins, John Homan, and Clifford Stone.

He is survived by his children, Carl (Lorrie) Homan, Linda (David) Burr, Carol (Donnie) Homan, Cathy (Luke) Gipson; grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Sarah Williams, Amber Homan, Carl W.D. Homan, Ruth Homan, Jacob Blommel, Ramsey Blommel, Adam Blommel, Jeremy Bridenbaugh, Katie Gibson, Jessica Bushey, Nathan Bridenbaugh, Emily Castle, Elijah Hall, Brooke Morgan, Blake Morgan, Niklas Collins; great-grandchildren Deanna Smith, Quentin Smith, Natalie Blommel, Levi Blommel, Lindsey Blommel, McKayden Brewer, Bella Brewer, Savannah Blommel, Scarlett Blommel, Sadie Blommel, Amaris Bridenbaugh, Axel Priser, Kendra Bushey; brother Carl Homan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was a wonderful and loving father, a man of faith who raised his children in the church and would often pray for them when they were sick. He was a devoted husband who retired early to take care of Margaret, along with their son Carl, while she was battling cancer.
Bill was present in the life of his grandchildren. He would often over pay them for chores that he would finish. He always had a Pepsi and a sandwich waiting for them after their "hard labor". Bill bought each grandchild a bike so they could spend more time together.
Bill was known as a Story Teller, the more you laughed the better the story got. He was also known for creating board games with his son Carl who still has the 30 or more he created.

Bill's family would like to thank Austin Trace Health and Rehabilitation and Crossroads Hospice for their loving care of Bill and his family during his final days.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Crossroads Hospice in Bill's memory.
