William H. Sammons

September 17, 1920 — January 17, 2015

William H. "Bill" Sammons, age 94, of Dayton, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born September 17, 1920 in Bisbee, Arizona. He was the son of the late Benjamin and Gertrude Sammons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Sammons; sister-in-law, Lois Sammons, and sister, Bonnie Taulbee.

America's foundation is the love of God and Country. Bill was a true American. What he and "his B17 crew" did in WWII (Distinguished Flying Cross) helped to preserve the freedom we American's have today. He returned after the War to help Germany in the Berlin Air Lift, providing food, coal; and candy for the children (he was known as a "Candy Bomber"). Bill took great pride in his service to our country. Some men have dreams, Bill Sammons lived his.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Sue (Ron) Bush; granddaughter, Rhonda Bush; two sisters, Betty (Dick) Stump and June (Bill) Vernier; brother-in-law, Ray Taulbee. He is also survived by numerous family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, January 28, 2015 with Pastor Clem Boyd officiating and Military Honors at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third St., Dayton, Ohio 45428. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
