William H. "Hub" Lakes
Age 79, of Huber Heights, passed away Monday, October 24, 2011, at The Hospice of Dayton after an extended illness.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Weir & Benjamin Lakes; and by one brother, Jack Lakes.
Bill is survived by his wife of the past 54 years, Verlene "Vicky" (Lightle) Lakes; three children, Kimberly (Phil) Morman, Anita (Tim) Miller & William (June) Lakes, Jr.; seven grandchildren, Lt. Timothy (Dana) & Jeremy Miller, Kelly, Rebecca & Gregory Morman and Joshua & Jaret Lakes; one great grandchild due to be born in April, 2012; one sister, Juanita Roney; one nephew, Kenneth Roney; and by his extended family & many good friends.
During the Korean Conflict Bill served in the U. S. Army, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3283 in Huber Heights. He was employed by McCalls/Dayton Press for 20 years and then retired from American Signature in Atlanta, Georgia as a sales/service rep. Bill was an avid golfer having made five holes-in-one.
The family will be receiving friends from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Thursday (10/27) at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:30 p.m. After committal services at Mt. Zion Shoup Cemetery family & friends are invited to a time of food, fellowship & sharing to start at 4:30 p.m. at the Huber Heights VFW, 5074 Nebraska Ave.
