William Galt

William R. "Bill" Galt, age 87, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 after an extended illness. Bill was preceded in death by his parents: Ralph Lee and Mary (O'Neil) Galt; sisters: Rhetta Finke and Katherine Helker; sons: William and Michael.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary Ann (Pytel); daughters: Kathy Galt, Nancy (Bob) Hankey and Patty (Jeff) Billett; daughter-in-law, Connie Galt; grandchildren: William George, William John, Aisha (Grant), Alysia, Alana, Shane, Elizabeth, Peyton, Jessica, Megan, Robbie, Haley, Zachary and Adam; and 4 great grandchildren.

Bill was a 35 year member of AA which he and his family consider one of his greatest accomplishments. Bill attended Chaminade High School, was a WWII Navy Veteran and a truck driver for over 46 years. The family would like to give thanks to Whopper, Jack and Gabe from AA for their love and support for Bill over the years; special thanks to the nurses and caregivers from Stone Springs of Vandalia, especially Julie and Shirley; and to Hospice of Vandalia for all the love, care and support they showed to Bill and his family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, where the family will receive friends for one and a half hours prior to the service, from 1:00 – 2:30 pm.
