William E. Hammond

Hammond, William E., age 77, of Dayton, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2009. William was a United States Navy Veteran proudly serving during the Korean War, he was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., and a member of VFW Post #3438 West Carrollton. He retired from DESI with 33 years of service and was the former owner of Blair's Lounge. William was Past Master of West Carrollton Lodge #737 F. & A.M.; Past High Priest of Friendship Chapter #245, Royal Arch Masons; Past Illustrious Master of Adoniram Council #131 Royal & Select Masons; Past Commander of Valley Commandery #80 Knights Templar; member of Ohio Priory #18, Knight of the York Cross of Honour; and member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton. William is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Pat (Jerry) Sanders, Angie (John) Roberts; sons and daughters-in-law: Robert (Portia), Gerald, Daniel (Teresa); 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; brothers: Silas (Sharon) Hammond, Charles (Pat) Hammond; mother of his children: Marge Hammond; and numerous other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Silas & Mallie Jane Hammond; his second wife: Judith Hammond; and brother: Ernest Lee Hammond. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Newcomer Funeral Home (South Chapel) 3940 Kettering Blvd. Interment will follow the service at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Miamisburg. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M with Masonic services at 7:45 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
