William Fleming Cissel (Bill), age 69, passed away peacefully Wednesday, 1st of May, 2019 in Beavercreek, Ohio. He was surrounded by his family.
Born in Christiansted, Saint Croix to Norman Ralph and Dorothy Elizabeth Adelaide Fleming Cissel, Bill graduated St. Joseph's Catholic High School, Frederiksted in 1969. He received his associate's degree at the then College of the Virgin Islands St. Croix campus before transferring to Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he earned his bachelor's degree.
Bill's love of history and his home lead him to work for the USVI Government at Fort Fredrik, and then the Department of Interior - National Park Service in Christiansted as a local historian and curator. His personal research, documentation and ability to accurately speak on local history, lead to many achievements, and he was sought out on numerous occasions for his expertise.
Bill was a man of deep Christian faith. Both before and after his retirement from civil service, Bill was actively involved with the St. John's Episcopal Church in Christiansted, not only through many positions within the church, but also overseeing restoration projects, and conducting personal research and documentation of its history.
Bill may not have realized it, but the greatest role he played was loving son, husband, and father. His sons could not have wanted for a better role model. He is survived by his wife Susan of 37 years, sons William "Tommy" and Alexander "Alex", daughters-in-laws Kathleen and Irene, and grandchildren Xavier, Josiah, and Gabrielle.
Bill's memorial service will be held at St. George's Episcopal Church 5520 Far Hills Ave., Kettering, Ohio, 45429 on Saturday, the 25th of May, 2019 at 11:00 am.
