Eppers, Jr. DrEng William Carl

Age 82 of Bellbrook, OH and Baltimore, MD passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Hospice of Dayton. He is survived by Mary Louise (Ormerod), his wife of 54 yrs, his three children Chris, Erik, Kirsten, their spouses and seven grandchildren. He was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a BSEE and DrEng before entering the USAF in 1955. After release from active duty he joined the Avionics Lab at Wright Patterson AFB and served in a number of positions including Chief Scientist and Lab Director. He led pioneering research in the development of high-powered lasers and exploring their use in military and communications applications. Retiring from the Avionics Lab in 1985, Dr. Eppers became a Professor of Electrical Eng. at Wright State University until 1992 and is the author of approximately 30 technical papers and presentations. For his lifetime contributions, Dr. Eppers was decorated for Exceptional Civilian Services from the Air Force and honored with the Pioneer Award from IEEE in 1992. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol for 31 yrs,patrolling in Ohio and Colorado . A memorial service will be held for family and friends on January 19, 2013 from 2-5pm, at Polen Farm, 5099 Bigger Rd., Kettering.
