William Harold Burge, aged 88, passed away on February 22, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on June 6, 1936, William, affectionately known as Bill, led a life marked by curiosity, adventure, and deep affection for his family.
Bill cultivated a lifelong career that began as a Journeyman Printer at Dayton Press and McCall's Printing. Bill excelled in his field, becoming a top salesman for LM Berry Yellow Pages in Dayton, Ohio, and later for Southern Bell Yellow Pages in Atlanta, Georgia.
An active member of Prince of Peace Church of the Brethren in Kettering, Ohio, Bill's faith was an integral part of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with those around him.
Bill's zest for life was evident in his diverse hobbies, which included metal detecting, treasure hunting, astronomy, and photography. He was a state champion pole vaulter. His love for aviation extended beyond just flying planes; he also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. A talented guitarist and singer, Bill often entertained family and friends with his music. Bill loved a good limerick. His creative spirit was also expressed through woodworking and painting.
Survived by his beloved wife, Nola Burge, and their children, John Burge (Kathy), Tracy Burge (Carolyn), Kelly Janus (Glen), Kara Smith (Winton), Steve Stoehr (Beverly), Annette Kennedy (Rick), and Kim Plunkett (David), Bill was a patriarch who cherished his family deeply. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Chase Burge (Bethany), Chelsea Decker (Jared), Chad Burge, Abby Janus, Molly Janus, Pierceson Smith, Dashel Smith, Laurie Brissey, Janice Leary, Nate Kennedy, Mathew Plunkett, Luke Plunkett, and Mark Plunkett and his 18 great-grandchildren.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie and John Burge.
Bill Burge lived a full life, marked by love, laughter, and a ceaseless quest for knowledge and adventure. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who loved him.
