William P. (Bill) Allman, Jr., age 85, passed away on June 8, 2023. He was born on Dec. 2, 1937 in Mount Vernon, New York. In 1968 he married Alice Carson of Upper Arlington, Ohio, and they were divorced in 1997. He is survived by his daughter Dr. Kimberly Jones (Brian) and grandchildren Jess and Nate of Los Altos, California, and his son Scott (Faith) and granddaughters Leah and Camille of Naperville, Illinois.
He was first in the Allman family to attend college and graduated from New York University (Industrial Engineering, 1959), and Northwestern University (Management Sciences, M.S. 1960 and Ph.D. 1966). He was a retired Professional Engineer. Bill's career in logistics and transportation included railroads, energy, the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, teaching at Grand Valley State University, and writing professional articles. He worked for several major companies, and came to Columbus in 1993 for a planning position with Columbia Gas, from which he retired in 2000. He called Columbus the greatest place he ever lived, becoming a Certified Tourism Ambassador here. He pursued interests in: volunteer ushering for the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts, serving on the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission's Community Advisory Committee, enjoying the Grandview Heights Senior Center, hiking with various groups, attending and promoting local jazz including the Famous Jazz Orchestra with Vaughn Wiester, and expressing opinions through letters to editors. He was a college, high school, and youth soccer official for over 35 years, being the oldest active youth referee in central Ohio at the time of his passing. He was grateful for the ability to actively pursue his love of trombone, trains, hiking, and soccer right up until the end of his life.
Bill found Godly spirit as a member of Grandview's Trinity United Methodist Church and a weekly men's Bible study group.
The family will have a private service.
