SPURLOCK, Red, age 82, of Fairborn, passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ella Spurlock; brother, Andy Spurlock; sister, Leona Siebel, and son, Marshall Spurlock.
Red is survived by the most beautiful woman in the world, in his opinion, Joyce Spurlock; children, Kathy Patrick, Connie Spurlock, Robin Wynn (David), Tricia Schall (Terry), Debbie Vance (Richie), Sharlene Spurlock (Randy), and Billy Red Spurlock (Joann); 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Grace Roberts, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and the Bluegrass community.
He and Joyce owned and operated Fairborn Auto Glass for over 38 years and he served 3 years in the U.S. Army as a firefighter. Red also worked as a deputy sheriff for Greene County. He was instrumental for bringing Bluegrass to the Dayton area and well known for his banjo pickin'.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, with Pastor Vernon Hurles officiating. Burial will follow at Byron Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 as well as 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a memorial fund in his name at any Fifth-Third Bank.
