Wesley Newton Hudgel, age 84 of Miamisburg, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 at his home. He was born March 29, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late William and Mildred Hudgel.
In addition to his parents, Wesley was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Vona Hudgel; his siblings, Thomas, Bill, Sarah, Ginny, Dorothy and Vera as well as several infant siblings.
Wesley is survived by his children, Alisa C. Hudgel, Wes (Debi) Hudgel, Dennis E. Hudgel, Keith R. Hudgel and Kimberly M. Wenning; grandchildren, Aliyah, Megan, Jenna and Sebastian; a sister, Wanda; numerous nieces and nephews; the 50 plus foster children that he cared for over the years as well as many extended family members and friends.
At 17 Wesley joined the U.S. Army and made a career in service to our country. He learned many skills throughout his career that allowed him to be a successful civilian as well as care for his family. His service included 2 tours in Vietnam retiring as Sgt 1st Class after 20 years and earning a full-time position at WPAFB in supply and logistics, retiring after 24 years. Wesley was a mentor and dedicated family man. He and his beloved wife foster parented over 50 children during their life-time. He was also a life-long member of the Baptist Church and enjoyed organizing family gatherings, frequenting casinos, wood-working, horses and throwing horse shoes.
Family will be celebrating Wesley's life and memory privately until such a date when they can invite friends and loved ones to gather safely to honor him. Highland Memorial Cemetery, Miamisburg will serve as Wesley's final resting place. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Indian School at 1301 North Main Street, Chamberlain, SD 57325.
