Wendell C. Burr

May 9, 1934 — April 23, 2013

Wendell Carl Burr, was born in Adams County, Ohio on May 9, 1934. His parents, Everett and Bertha Burr raised him in a small house on a farm in Lynx, Ohio where he grew up with life long friend, Wendell Vogler.

As a teenager, he would drive to West Union always bringing a bucket to put under the car to catch the gas that leaked out of it. He would walk around the square and would meet Kathryn Hull whom he fell in love with and soon married her in 1954.

With no jobs in West Union, they made the trek to Dayton to work in the envelope factory where his father and brother worked.

He had 2 sons, Ricky born in 1955 and David born in 1959 after living in rooms and a trailer he bought a house in Dayton in 1964 for $12,000, "a whopping $109 house payments" and soon landed a job at Frigidare. He would pack up his wife and kids every Friday to drive "down home" spending Friday night at his mom and dads. He would always take his nice car and thru the years he had a lot of cars and a lot of nice ones.

He took such good care of his cars, people would always say "Wendell if you ever wanna sell that car, let me know"…

As luck would have it he landed a job at General Motors and all was well until 1973 when he lost his son Ricky, 18 in a car accident.
Caught up in a whirlwind Wendell and Kathryn threw themselves into church where he was an usher for years. He was a quiet man but loved to have fun and seemed to get along with everyone he came into contact with as he continued to prosper the Lord blessed him with monies to build a 2 car garage, of course Kathryn always got the best car and he made sure she never had to pump gas, and she never did.

As he grew older he too would enjoy getting the grandkids, Hollie and DJ on the weekends.

Wendell and Kathryn went to Honduras, Venezuela, and Haiti on mission trips and helped to build churches in those impoverished countries.

He was a good husband and the greatest father a kid could ever ask for.

In the early 1990's he bought a permanent spot at Longs Retreat Campground where he would go on the weekends and spend time with family. Ya didn't wanna be around when it was time to start fire though, because he thought gasoline was the accelerant to to use "Flames would go 20 feet in the Air!!!! Good times"…

He and Kathryn enjoyed retirement until October 2008 when Kathryn suddenly past. He was digressed quickly after losing his wife and best friend.

To sum thing up, the world would be a lot better place if we had more people like Wendell Burr in it.
Wendell you will truly be missed.
