Wanda A. Gallimore

December 27, 1944 — August 29, 2024

Dayton

Wanda Ashley Gallimore, age 79, of Centerville, OH, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at her residence, in the loving care of her husband, Richard, her children, many other wonderful family members, and Hospice of Dayton, after an extended illness with cancer.

Wanda was born Wanda Wayne Calder on December 27, 1944, in Eubank, KY. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and pets, whom she loved deeply. She treasured lunch dates with friends, evening car rides, and working in her garden. She was a great cook, the queen of “Home DIY” projects before it became popular, and had a talent for making any home beautiful. Wanda was a “Kentucky Strong” woman who was not afraid of hard work and instilled that work ethic in her children. As a child, she worked on the family farm and was a housekeeper; she had an eye for detail and believed in the adage “do something right or don’t do it at all.” She moved to Dayton, Ohio, in the early '60s, working at The Country Kitchen and Frisch’s Big Boy, until she landed a job at Frigidaire and then retired from General Motors in 2003. In her later years, she grew to know the Lord, worked part-time, and volunteered at SouthBrook Christian Church, where she met her husband along with many wonderful friends. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy Nelson and Sadie Elizabeth (Calder) Anderson of Science Hill, KY; eldest son, Doug Eugene Ashley of Dayton, OH; grandparents, William Albert and Sadie Calder of Science Hill, KY; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; former husband, Paul Eugene Ashley of Somerset, KY and her late husband, Thomas J. Gallimore, of Centerville, OH.

She is survived by her brother, Jackie Allen (Kathy) Anderson; sister, Sharon Willene Anderson (George) Harris; husband, Richard Hawley; sons, Greg (Dana) Ashley and Joe (Tracy) Ashley of Dayton, OH; daughter, Teresa (Randy) Mount of Centerville, OH; step-children, Jason (Nikki) Gallimore, Kevin (Amber) Gallimore, Courtney (Eric) Graham,  Ashlyn (Greg) Blatz; grandchildren, Logan (Amanda) Ashley, Sean (Beverly) Ashley, Amber (Ronny) Garland, Justin (Kim) Ashley, Robert (Olivia) Mount, Kyle (Zoey) Ashley, Tyler Ashley, Rosabella (Austin) Ricker/Mount; step-grandchildren, Anna Whittaker, Vanessa Graham, Jacob, Evelyn & Otto Blatz, Alexis Gallimore and 18 great-grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at SouthBrook Christian Church, 9095 Washington Church Rd., Miamisburg, OH 45342. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. at the church with Pete Creamer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420, in her memory.
