Wanda Abele was born August 4, 1933, in Pittsburg, Kentucky, to the late Arthur and Tishie West. She departed this life on March 12, 2015, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Abele, three sisters, and three brothers.
After 31 years of service, Wanda retired from General Motors, where she served as a committeeman as well as a member on the executive board of the Rubber Workers Local 87 at Inland in Dayton, Ohio. In retirement, she remained close with many of her co-workers as a member and President of the Ladies of Leisure club.
Wanda loved the outdoors and took great pride in keeping a beautiful garden. She and her husband made long-lasting friendships and countless memories as members of the VFW in Dayton, Ohio, as well as on their annual trip to their winter home in Navarre,Florida. Every summer, Wanda traveled across the state of Ohio to watch her grandson play baseball and be with the rest of the Prosser baseball family that she cherished so much. During those years, she also loved to attend her granddaughter's violin concerts. Everyone that knew her knew to expect a big hug and share in a laugh every time she was around.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Debra (Roger) Crisp; grandchildren, Philip and Alexis Crisp; siblings, Betty Mills, Thelma Snyder, and Jack (Doris) West; and dear friend, Gretchen Harlow. Her family would like to thank those at Emeritus at Fox Run for the wonderful care she received while in their care for the past three years.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 20, 2015, from 12:30 PM until the time of service at 1:30 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either; the Alzheimer's Society of Dayton or to Kindred Hospice, who spent 15 months providing her with exceptional care.
