Walter H. Powers, age 85, of Kettering, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016. Walter was born on February 2, 1931 in Harlan, KY to the late John and Nora Powers.
He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and 1 sister. Walter is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joanne Powers; sons, Terrance (Susan) Powers, Michael (Kathy Black) Powers, Timothy (Paula) Powers and Mathew Powers; grandchildren, Nikki, Jamie, Christopher, Grant and Nathan; and many other relatives and friends.
He was a United States Army Veteran. Walter was a dedicated employee of NCR, The Producers Oil Company and General Motors/Delphi Kettering from where he retired. He enjoyed his family, fishing, traveling, UK, UD and Fairmont basketball. Walter also had fond memories of his time as a basketball coach at St. Albert the Great. He was a member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Chapter 3730.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at St. Albert the Great (3033 Far Hills Ave, Kettering, OH). Walter will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff of The Carlyle House and Hospice of Dayton for their excellent and loving care.
