Walter C Mays

Walter C. Mays, 81, of Dayton passed away peacefully on January 15, 2018. Walter was born in Mississippi to the late Virgia and Will Mays. Walter married the love of his life, Mary Reed in 1966. The two have celebrated 51 years of marriage.

Walter was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending his free time at Rainbow Lake and many other local fishing spots. He loved to play cards and checkers with his friends and family. Walter took great pride in his family. He was a loving, caring, and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. Walter will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by siblings, Albert Mays, Willie Mays, John Mays, Leo Mays, David Lee Mays, and Eva Ford.

Walter leaves to cherish his memory, loving wife of 51 years, Mary A. Mays; children, Dianna (Shawn) Menefee, Walter K. (Henrietta) Mays, Sherita R. (Andre) Baker, Renita Mays; sister, Betty N. Mayes; brother, Alvin (Regina) Mays; grandchildren, Quentin, Imani, Michael, Ray Ray, Alexis, Ryan, Amari, Debria, Taylor, Tamia, Shania, Arionne, and Calvin; 8 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Walter will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:30am at St. Paul Community Church in Christ. A visitation will take place for one hour prior (9:30a - 10:30a). Burial to follow at Willow View Cemetery.
