Walter Ray Davis, age 81 of Dayton, passed away Monday, January 9, 2023 at home after a lengthy illness. He was born November 28, 1941 in Newton, West Virginia, the son of the late George and Orpha Davis of Shrewsbury, West Virginia.
Walter Ray proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years and retired as a Master Sergeant at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. During his career he served in the Joint Task Force during Vietnam in SAC, TAC and the 4950th Test Wing. He retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base from civil service after 30 years. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader for the Miami Valley Council and a Girl Scout Leader in Laredo, Texas and Hampton, Virginia. He attended Solid Rock Church and Grace Baptist Church. Walter Ray enjoyed hunting, shooting and leather craft.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Velsie Maxine (Bruce) Smith nee Walker, John Warner (Molly) Davis, Annie Davis and Hubert Charles (Fumiea) Davis.
Walter Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Claudia; children, Yvonne (Rick) Bobbert and Walt (Becky) Davis; grandchildren, Brandon Steele, Jonathan Steele and Justin (Sydney) Davis; step grandchildren, Shayne (Audra) Sams and Morgan (Jacob) Schutte; great grandchild, Alora Quinn Steele; step great grandchildren, Allison Marie Sams and Jackson Todd Schutte and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church (857 S. Elm Street, West Carrollton, Ohio 45449) or Restoration Ranch of Ohio (903 Union Road, Suite A, Lebanon, Ohio 45036).
Visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. A Funeral Service will be held at January 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at Solid Rock Church (903 Union Rd., Lebanon, Ohio 45036) with Pastor Doug Criswell officiating. Walter Ray will be laid to rest at Heritage Hills Cemetery with military honors following the service.
