Walter E. Cassidy, age 81 of Dayton, passed away February 7, 2012. He was born May 26, 1930 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Francis and Grace Cassidy. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Cassidy.
Walter is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Cassidy; daughter and son-in-law: Julia and John Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law: Scott and Linda Cassidy; 4 grandchildren: Connor and Kit Fitzgerald and Sarah and Shannon Cassidy; brothers: Ralph, David (Carol) and Gerald (Patricia); sister-in-law, Helen Rowlands; 11 nieces and nephews; and many longtime neighbors and friends.
Walter was a 1953 graduate from the University of Dayton. He was a veteran of the U.S Army; retired from the Chrysler Corporation after 33 years of service; volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, Life Essentials and St. Vincent DePaul Society; and was a Lector for many years at the Queen of Martyrs Church.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 pm on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, where a prayer service will begin at 2:00 pm and military honors will begin at 5:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, February 13, 2012 at Queen of Martyrs Church, 4144 Cedar Ridge Road, Dayton, Ohio 45414. Father Joshua Otusafo, Celebrant. Burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Walter's memory to The Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420.
