Walter E. Brown Sr. "El" "Ole Bud" "Ole Coot" “Big Bird”, age 87 of Dayton, passed unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was born December 22, 1936 in Coaldale, West Virginia to the late Lloyd and Ethel Brown. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Willa Mae; two children, Zarak Payne and Darryl Brown; four siblings, Llyod Brown Jr., Rose Marie Brown, Julia Thomas, and Lois Caldwell. 

Walter is survived by his four children, Belinda Butler, Sonia Brown, Walter Brown Jr., and Shauna Gaffney; six grandchildren, Lynn (April), Marcus, Tiffany, Brittany, Raeshaun, and Ryan; and sister, Sheila Bush. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Walter graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Knoxville College in Tennessee and later worked as a superintendent at Dayton Press. He enjoyed watching Westerns and listening to blues music. The most important thing to Walter was his family and spending quality time with grandson, Ryan his best bud. He is well loved and will be deeply missed. 

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3940 Kettering Blvd. Kettering, OH 45439). Funeral Service will be officiated at 12:00 pm following visitation. Walter will be laid to rest following services at Woodland Cemetery (118 Woodland Ave. Dayton, OH 45409).
