Walter A. Saxe, Jr., Colonel, USAFR, 81, of Huber Heights, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, in his home, under the loving care of Vitas Innovative Hospice Care and family members.

Walter was born in Springfield, MO on November 8, 1930, to parents, Walter and Hazel (Blackstun) Saxe. He was a 1952 graduate of Penn State, a member in the Pi Kappa Alpha social Fraternity and Delta Nu Alpha transportation Fraternity. ROTC commissioned, he was called to active duty in 1952. He served at Eglin AFB, Florida, Komaki AFB, Japan and Seoul City AFB, Korea. He married the love of his life, Mary Jane Robbins on September 4, 1955, in Canton, PA. He attributed her unfailing support for his successful dual Federal Civil Service and Air Force Ready Reservist careers. Colonel Saxe served 33 years government service, primarily at Wright Patterson AFB. He graduated Air Command and Staff College, Air War College and Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He retired in 1985. Walter was dedicated to his family, church, (member of Sulphur Grove UMC since 1958) and serving his country. He provided 10 years of at home care for his wife who had Parkinson's / Alzheimer's until her passing in 2005. He was active in the local Alzheimer Caregiver's Support Group, joining in 2005, eventually serving as a facilitator for the group.

Walter is survived by a brother, Ronald Saxe; son, Walter "Chip" (Debbie) Saxe; daughter, Amy (Rodney) Saxe Willis; and grandchildren: Patrick, Marlee and Kara.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Sulphur Grove United Methodist Church, 7505 Taylorsville Road, Huber Heights, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 12:00 – 1:00 pm. A private burial is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to The National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O.
