Virginia "Phyllis" C. Ward, age 76, of Dayton, went to sleep in the Lord's arms November 21, 2015. Virginia was born in Springfield, Ohio on August 8, 1939 to Charles and Janet Thompson. Virginia retired in 1994 from the City of Dayton after more than 25 years of service. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping, planting flowers and spending time with family.
Virginia is survived by her mother, Janet Samuels; daughter, Richelle (Curtis) Ramey-Cooks, sons, William (Marva) Carter, James Rose; grandchildren, Jesse, Kevin, William, Domeco, Jhamecca, Jeffrey, Leah; sisters, Pam, Glenna, Sudie; brothers, Re, Michael, Tommie, Jay; special daughters, Veronica, Zelda, Yen, Ann; aunts, Charlotte, Flora, Virginia, Marilyn, Ruby, Gladys; uncle, Ernest; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also, Luther (Lori, Leah) Ward and Jimmy Rose.
Virginia was preceded in death by her father, Charles Thompson; step father, Michael Samuels; grandmother, Virginia (Raymond) Cook; brothers, Douglas Thompson, Val Thompson; and grandson, Dontae Palmer.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio 45424. The service will immediately follow.
