Virginia Elliott

December 1, 1926 — December 28, 2013

Elliott, Virginia Rose "Ginny," 87, of Kettering, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, December 28, 2013. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Esther (Reamer) Gordon, brother Richard Gordon, and infant daughter, Lynn Anne.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James "Jim" Elliott, daughters, Diane (Roy) Carman of Beavercreek and Chris Curtis of Kettering; grandchildren, Steve (Shannon) Carman of Dayton, Eric (Bridget) Carman of Oakwood, Shane (Leslie) Howard of Dayton, Carrie (Kent) Clary of Miamisburg, Jamie (Jason) George of Troy, Jason Carman of Indianapolis, and Keith (Tari) Curtis Jr. of Dayton; and great-grandchildren, Skyler, Rebecca, Kyle, Ian, Mallory, Taylor, Tommy, Kellan, Jocelynn, and Krista.

Ginny was born on December 1, 1926 in Tiffin, OH. She moved to Dayton after high school and worked at Wright Field (now Wright-Patterson Air Force Base) during World War II. After the war, she met her future husband Jim Elliott. They were married on October 20, 1951. Over the years, Ginny was an administrative assistant to a colonel at Wright-Patt and held secretarial positions at the University of Dayton, Top Value and a local insurance agency. In 1974, Ginny and Jim relocated to Memphis, Tennessee for Jim's job. There, she worked for the City of Memphis Board of Education. After retiring, she and Jim moved back to Dayton to be closer to family. Ginny was a loving, caring woman who enjoyed nothing more than talking about her children, grandchildren, and cats Kitty and Dusty.

She was an outgoing and spunky lady who never met a stranger. Ginny had a strong faith in God and encouraged her family to believe with her. She will be missed by friends and family, but her loved ones take comfort in knowing that she's in a better place.

Family will receive friends at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45432, on Thursday, January 2, from 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Ascension Catholic Church, 2025 Woodman Dr, Dayton, OH 45420.
