Perkins, Virginia C. Boling, (nee McGill)
Age 90, of Dayton, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 17, 2011 following a lengthy illness. She was born on April 12, 1921 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Milton and Mae (nee Fry) McGill. She was raised at the former Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home (the Home) in Xenia, Ohio for 12 years. She graduated from the commercial program at OSSO in 1940 at the age of 19. She first settled in Columbus, Ohio, then to St. Paris, Ohio and finally to Dayton, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leslie N. Boling, who was killed in a B-17 plane crash in England during WWII on November 10, 1943. She was preceded in death by former husband Eugene L. Perkins on May 12, 1998. Also preceding her in death were sisters, Evelyn Reynolds, Frances Helrigle, Marilyn Hecker, and brother Donald McGill. She is survived by daughter Diane Price, son Daniel Perkins, sister Gloria Smith, half-sisters Sylvia Fisher and Betty Florkey. She will be greatly missed by grandchildren Michael Cheney (Amy), Patrick Price (Gail), Jeremy Price, Tara Price (Adam) and two great-grandchildren Nathanial (Nate) and Julianne Cheney, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Virginia's vocation as a secretary was performed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dayton, Ohio for almost 17 years from 1963-1980. Virginia loved sewing her own clothes that she wore proudly. She also volunteered as an office assistant at the Dayton Opera for several seasons.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, South Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45439. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 239 Wayne Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45402 (where Virginia was a member) on Wednesday October 26, 2011 with a viewing from 9:00 to 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 10:00 AM, Pastor Robert Miller, officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Virginia's name to Hospice of Dayton, St. Paul Lutheran Church, and the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
