Virgil W Whitsel Sr, 85, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Virgil is preceded in death by his parents Ray Whitsel and Olive (Whitsel) Smith; and his wife Betty Whitsel. He is survived by his four sons Virgil (Melody) Whitsel Jr; Dewey Whitsel; Warren (Anne) Tate; Ernest (Sandy) Tate; and his two daughters Henrietta Whitsel; and Lela Tate. He is also survived by his loving girlfriend and caregiver Jesi Oppy as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Virgil served in the United States Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic for over twenty-eight years. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. In his free time Virgil (aka "Wild Bill") loved to go camping and fishing, was an avid admirer of trucks, and would pay a visit to the local VFW's and talk with his friends.
Visitation will be from 3-4 pm on Friday, April 16, 2021, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio.
