Pack, Virgil Duncan (Dunc), age 84, passed away peacefully at 1:59 A.M. Friday, on January 2, 2009, from an extended illness at his daughter's home (Mary Jane) in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on January 16, 1924 in Johnson County, Kentucky the son of Rennie Pack and Angeline (Webb). He married Helen (Wells) on August 24th, 1951, and she preceded him in death on December 11th, 2006. They were married for 54 years. Survivors include 2 daughters; Mary Jane (Jeff) Whisler, of Columbus, Ohio, Sandra (Gary) Back, of Dayton, Ohio, and one son Robert Pack of Springfield, Ohio; 1 grandson, Scott (Holly) Wicks; 2 granddaughters, Amanda and Ashley Back, 1 sister, Dorothy (Bud) Meade of Clemons, North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Herman and Russell Pack, and his sisters, Merrill Lambert and Rema Pack. He was a WWII veteran and a retiree from the Duriron Co. after 35 years. He was an avid sports fan of baseball and Kentucky Wildcats basketball. In his early years he was a pool shark and a butcher in Van Lear, Kentucky, and was an expert rifleman in the army. He enjoyed traveling on numerous senior citizen trips around the county with his wife, Helen. He loved dancing, bluegrass, and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa and he will be dearly missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, January 6, 2008 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH. Interment will follow at Dayton National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8 PM.
