Viola L. Nichols
January 8, 1919 — July 31, 2021
Viola Lula Howard Nichols, 102, formerly of Erieville NY and Fayetteville NY, made her final stop on July 31, 2021. She was born, January 8, 1919 in Natural Bridge, NY, the daughter of George and Gladys Davis Howard. Through a series of life events, she was sister to 14 siblings. She is survived by two brothers, Albert(Karlene) Laws of OK and Maurice Laws of NY; two sons Patrick(Cathy) Nichols, Hans(Carol) Nichols; one daughter Melanie(Rick) Gillium; granddaughters Christy(Rob) Davis, Megin Nichols, Danielle(Christopher) Schwartz; great grandchildren Abbygail and Andrew Davis and many nieces and nephews.
Viola graduated from Fulton NY High School in 1937 and subsequently served in the US Navy during WWII from 9/43-11/45 as a Dental Technician. After the war, she attended the University of Pennsylvania school of Dental Hygiene, a profession she worked in until her retirement in 1984.

Viola loved to garden both vegetables and flowers. From tulips to tomatoes, she definitely had a green thumb. While a resident of Fayetteville, she thoroughly enjoyed the activities at the Fayetteville Senior Center, which also afforded her the opportunity to travel to numerous locations in and outside the United States. Her vast collection of postcards and magnets are a testament to these travels.
She was blessed with relatively good health as evidenced by her ability to still mow her lawn at age 93. In 2012 she decided it was time to relax and let someone else do the cooking and cleaning. Since then she had resided in Ohio enjoying life in various senior communities.
Interment will be in the Columbarium at Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C. at a later date. The family may be contacted through Newcomer Funeral Home, Beavercreek Ohio.
