Viola A. Barton

BARTON, Viola A., age 83, of Xenia, went home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on Thursday, February 7, 2008. She was born July 4, 1924 in Dayton, OH. Viola was a teacher in the Xenia Public School System for 34 years where she greatly enjoyed teaching and children, she was a member of the Greene County Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Tammy Barton of Riverside, OH; 3 grandchildren, Jessica Barton, Brian Collingsworth, and Michael Collingsworth; one nephew, Sonny; one niece Shirley Kessler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rollie Barton, Jr.; parents, Samuel and Mabel (Johnson) Thurman; daughter, Julia Lynn Collingsworth; sister, Mable Doolin; brother's, Earl, Lee, and Walt Thurman. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd.) with Rev. John Swint officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to time of service. Interment will follow in Valley View Memorial Gardens. If desired donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
