ABATE, Vincent F. age 83 of Xenia, passed away January 15, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice, of 62 years; sons and daughter-in-laws, Robert (Angie) Abate, and Thomas (Carol) Abate; daughters, Maria Abate and Tina (Greg) Atkins; six grandchildren, Alina, Amarett, Alice Noel, Christopher, and Nicholas, all of Dayton, and Vinnie from Charleston, N. Carolina; brother, Frank M. Abate; sister-in-law, Mary Abate; and brother-in-law, Albert Bedross of Warwick, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mario and Maria (Cincotta) Abate. Vincent was born on October 18, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 18 during World War II ending up in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He fought in Okinawa, the Last Battle of WWII where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. After marrying Alice they came to Ohio, settled in Xenia and raised their four children. He was employed at WPAFB for 33 years working on power equipment engine repair until his retirement. Vincent enjoyed his hobbies and was a real craftsman with his skill. Among his favorite hobbies were making ships in a bottle, which he learned from watching his Uncle Baldasrro when he was a youngster. He also enjoyed knife making and yes during open season he loved to hunt. Vincent was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans. Vincent will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery following a private Mass and Memorial service at the Calvary Chapel Monday, January 19th. In place of flowers, please make contributions to any local charity of choice. He will be forever missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
