Tribute to a life well-lived.
Vina (Meek) McLaughlin, 95, of Beavercreek, died Friday, May 20, 2022. She was born in Johnson County, Kentucky on September 17, 1926. She was the daughter of Harrison and Julia Meek. She always spoke fondly of her life growing up on a farm in Paintsville, Kentucky. Vina graduated in 1944 from Meade Memorial High School in Williamsport, Kentucky. After graduation Vina moved to Cincinnati to begin her working career. She began working as a waitress downtown where she felt she learned a lot of life lessons. She moved to the Dayton area and began working at Frigidaire where she met and married the love of her life, Jerald McLaughlin, in 1949.
She and Jerald were married for 51 years and were blessed with three children. She was a dedicated, loving mother and beloved grandmother and great-grandmother. Vina was a member of the United Church of God/Dayton for 60 years. She had a true servant's heart. She enjoyed serving any way she could and wherever she saw a need. Her home was always open and welcoming to all.
She is survived by her son Jerry (Cathy) McLaughlin of Waynesville, daughter Joan (Bart) Bornhorst of New Ringgold PA, and daughter Jana Reed of Fairborn. Eight grandchildren; John McLaughlin, Neil McLaughlin, Sarah Henderson, Kyle Bornhorst, Bradley Bornhorst, Chelsea Reed, and Jacob Bornhorst. Thirteen great-grandchildren; Ewan, Nora, Gwen, Elle, Levi, (due soon, Archie) Madelyn, Joshua, Levi, Bethany, Elianah, Liam and Avery. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerald McLaughlin, grandson Zachary Reed, her parents, three brothers and five sisters.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432) with funeral service at 1:00 pm. Internment at Byron Cemetery immediately following the service.
