Vernon Depew

Vernon DePew, age 81, of Kettering, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 4, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chauncey & Julia DePew.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara DePew; children, Jeweline Smith, JoAnn Fowler, Fonda (Mark) Frazier and Ron (Dena) DePew; grandchildren, Chad (Julie) Smith, Chris (Courtney) Smith, Casey (Stacy) Smith, Cory (Elly) Smith, Matt (Michelle) Fowler, Mark (Rachel) Dell, Sarah D'elia, Nathaniel DePew, Shain DePew and Stephanie DePew; great-grandchildren, Ty and Colten Smith, Dalton, Layne and Garrett Smith, Grayson Smith, Tayler Norris, Ava Fowler, Michael and Owen Dell and Payton Brubaker; sisters, Audrey (Dick) Plemmons and Jean Toon; brother, Don Depew; sisters-in-law, Lavonne (Curtis) Malott and Donna Wright; brothers-in-law, Earl Wilcher, Marvin (Judy) Wilcher, Linnie (Mary) Wilcher, Lonnie Wilcher and Jery Wilcher; his beloved dog, Bubby; and many other relatives and friends.

Vernon retired from the City of Kettering after 30 years of service. He loved to fish, walk his dog, and watch the Reds. He enjoyed talking with family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 9-10am at Newcomer Funeral Home South Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439). The service will follow at 10am. Burial will take place at David's Cemetery.
