Vernetta L. Jones

Vernetta L. Jones, age 69, of Dayton, passed away February 24, 2022. She was born August 12, 1952 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Richard and Serjetta (Burnette) Jackson. Vernetta L. Jones graduated from South High School in 1970. She moved to Dayton, Ohio and obtained her realtor license. She was devoted in her faith as a member of the Jehovah's Witness Congregation for over 20 years.

In addition to her parents, Vernetta was preceded in death by her brother, Richard M. Jackson, Jr., and sister, Carol Jackson Taylor. Vernetta leaves to mourn her husband of 53 years, Michael "Mike" Jones; children, Michael Jones Jr., Calvin (Malika) Jones, Natalie Jones, Rasheedah Jones (Timothy) Boykin, Raphael Jones, Jahnathan Jones; 9 grandchildren, Cimaria Jones, Brianna Croom, Jibri Croom, Antonio Smith, Serjetta Smith, Makayla Jones, Calvin Jones Jr., Jatovah Jones and Devon Jones; 1 great-granddaughter, Cherish Crenshaw. She is also survived by her sisters, Melvina (Jerry) Fryar, Theresa (Claude) Jones, Rachel A. Jackson, Doris J. Jackson, her brothers, Amos E. Jackson and Michael E. Jackson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other loved ones and friends.

Vernetta was a sweet, kind ,loving, pure gentle woman who greeted everyone with a smile. She was most known for telling jokes and creating special nicknames for everyone she knew. Vernetta was known as the best cook in the family. Her most popular dish was potato salad. Her specialty dish was always requested for family gathers. She would also prepare a big breakfast for cousin and friends after sleep overs and parties that took place on, 35 South Mathison Street. Vernetta had a strong admiration for old school classic music. She would listen to songs then create rhymes to make them her own. Vernetta also enjoyed traveling. A few of her favorite destinations were, British Columbia and Settle Washington. Vernetta will always be remembered as a person who showed love and kindness to everyone she knew.


Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 11:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm at Newcomer Centerville Chapel, 820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd.
