Vena Mae Drennen passed away peacefully at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton on April 20, 2024.
Vena was born in Lucasville, Ohio on November 1,1929 to Bea and Eva Kimbler. She graduated from Valley Local High School in 1947. In 1949 she married Donald Drennen and they soon moved to Dayton, Ohio where their first son, Doug, was born in 1951.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Her husband, Donald Drennen. Oldest son, Doug Drennen, siblings George Kimbler and Mary Ann Landrum, and Granddaughter, Rachel Taylor.
Vena is survived by her five children. David, Anita Earl (Stephen), Phil (Jennifer), Celia Ortiz (Richard), Jimmy (Virgie), 10 Grandchildren, and 12 Greatgrandchildren.
Vena was always an active member in her community. As a Boy and Girl Scout Leader and with Beavercreek School's PTOs when her children were younger. Vena spent many evenings at Parklane Park watching her children play baseball and then watched as they coached. The community had the park renamed to The D.G. Drennen Park after Don passed away in 1983.
In later years, Vena served as a volunteer at the Riverside Historical Museum, Senior Center, and the Chamber of Commerce. Vena also enjoyed the Garden Club, Card Club, and Bowling League.
Vena was a talented seamstress. Quilting was her passion, as well as needle work, and gardening. Vena made many quilts to share with family and friends.. She also won numerous blue ribbons at the Montgomery County Fair for her needlework.
Vena still lived independently in the home she and Don purchased in 1953. Her children and grandchildren gathered there often, and all have many wonderful, fun memories of those times together.
Her family will have a private ceremony at Newcomer Beavercreek Chapel.
Friends and neighbors are invited to Vena's home July 3rd, 5-8 PM to share refreshments and memories.
