Velma Miller

MILLER, Velma Jane, nee Walker, 89, of Dayton, passed
away unexpectedly at home. She was born in Cookeville,
TN in 1915. Velma moved to Dayton in 1937. During
WWII she inspected airplane propellers for Frigidaire;
she later retired from Van Dyne Crotty where she
worked as a seamstress. Velma was a founding member
of the North Dayton Baptist Church; she was a member
and volunteered countless hours at Bethel Temple.
Velma resided for over 40 years on Maryland Avenue in
Old North Dayton. She was preceded in death by
husband of 50 years Thomas Miller. Survivors include
her daughter Carla Young of Dayton, sons Danny
(Brenda) Miller of Florida, and David Miller of
California, 5 grandchildren Tanya Young, John Young,
Paula Miller, Sarah Miller, John (Anita)Cooper, great
grandchildren Ciarra and Gracie Cooper, sisters Dimple
Miller and Geneva Clark, special friends Jan Thompson,
Lisa Seaman, and a host of other relatives and
friends. Services are scheduled for 1PM Tuesday, Nov.
30 at Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering
Blvd in Kettering with graveside services to follow at
Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Rev. D. Leroy Whiteman officiating . Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 29 from 7-9PM at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may also be made at www.newcomerfamily.com.
