Velma Virginia King, age 98, of Kettering, passed away on December 31, 2023. She was born in Marietta, Ohio, on October 19, 1925, the daughter of the late James and Goldie Congleton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 71 years, Glenn F. King, Jr.; her son, Glenn F. King, III; and her siblings, Jake, Hayward, Viola and Mildred.
Velma is survived by her loving sons, Gary W. (Cristiane) King and Gregg D. (Mary) King; grandchildren, Kelly, Ryan, Charmayne, Vanessa, Andrew, Diedra, Jennifer, Rachel and Nathan; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Helen Jones; and many other loving family and friends.
She retired from Government Service in 1981, where she was a Traffic Management Supervisor. She was a member of the Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene (now Be Hope Church) for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed playing games, crossword puzzles, gardening, canning and spending time with her family. Velma was a classic matriarch of her family, she was always there to give helpful advice. She was very devoted to her family and fiercely protective of her sons. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held from 12:00pm-1:00pm, on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, where a Celebration of her Life will begin at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery, Beavercreek.
