Veleria Wilkerson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away on November 29, 2024, at age 90, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion. She was born on January 29, 1934, in Glen, Georgia to the late Sweet and Leola Strickland. Veleria attended Mary Johnson High School in Franklin, Georgia, where she began to shape the compassionate and caring spirit that would define her life.
At an early age, she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was baptized at the State Line Church. Her faith remained steadfast throughout her life, serving as a source of strength and guidance for her family and those who knew her.
Veleria was a nurturing and loving mother, always putting her family first. She had a talent for creating a warm and welcoming home, and she took great pride in her beautiful garden, delicious cooking, and dedication to keeping her surroundings pristine. Her kindness, caring heart, and joyful presence left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Veleria was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Wilkerson; her dear parents, Sweet and Leola Strickland; three sisters, Elizabeth Daniels, Alice Brooks, and Corine Bolds; two brothers, Charlie Strickland, and Paul Strickland; and dearest friends, Elijah Crane Jr, Virginia Crane and Lottie Brown.
To cherish her memory and celebrate her legacy, she leaves her devoted daughter, Teresa (Mark) Ecton, and adoring son, Tony Wilkerson Sr.; five grandchildren, Eryn Ecton, Tony Wilkerson Jr., Teremy Wilkerson (Pam), Tramaine Wilkerson (Carolyn), and Tereak Wilkerson; four great-grandchildren, DaVae Wilkerson, Taylor Wilkerson; Tyler Wilkerson, and Mariah Wilkerson. She is also survived by her brother, Sweet (Dorothy) Strickland Jr.,; nieces Inez Moreland, Alice Virginia, and Melanie (Charles) Vaughn; nephew Paul Strickland Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends.
All who knew her will deeply miss Veleria’s warmth, generosity, and kindness. Her legacy of faith, family, and love will continue to inspire and guide the lives of those she touched.
A celebration of her life will be held on December 12, 2024 at 6pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering, to honor the remarkable woman she was and the love she shared with so many. Burial Services will be held on December 13, 2024 at 10am at Dayton National Cemetery. The family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who has offered their support, prayers, and comfort during this time.
