ALLEN, Ulys S. (Al), 91, of Centerville passed away on October 19, 2010.
He was born in Pulaski, VA on January 18, 1919 to the late Asa A. and Bessie (Woodyard) Allen.
Al was a Pearl Harbor survivor and was proud to have served his country during WWII. His naval career was marked with many honors: A purple heart, and a field level promotion to Ensign. He attended Parkview Church of the Nazarene.
Al was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Lois Ann Hail and of 18 years, Shirley (Devers) Zwink; sister, Vivian (Allen) Tabor and brother, Wiley Allen.
He is survived by his brother, Jack (Peggy) Allen; children, Robert (Edie) Allen of Bourbonnais, IL, Frank (Kathi) of Beavercreek, OH, Julia Allen-Wiseman of Midland, MI and Beth Allen of Dayton, OH; step-children, Dennis (Kathy) Zwink of Batesville, IN, and Lori (Lynn) Crockett of Bellbrook, OH; 9 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 23 at 10:00 AM at the Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene (1850 N. Fairfield Rd. Beavercreek, OH 45432) with Rev. Ron Justice officiating. Family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, October 22 at Newcomer Funeral Home- Beavercreek Chapel (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd. 45432)
In lieu of flowers, Al requested that donations be made to the Lois Hail Allen Scholarship at Olivet Nazarene University.
