Turner "Pat" Patterson, born in Siler City, NC on Jan 5, 1921 and died at Walnut Creek Nursing Center on Dec 6, 2011. His family moved to Cincinnati when he was a baby after his father died when a tree fell on him. He and his sisters then went to live at the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Home in Xenia, where he learned to grow flowers.
In 1947 he purchased Maplewood Gardens in Germantown and started a floral business growing flowers and following a dream. Later he built Patterson's Floral Gardens in Germantown where he grew beautiful flowers and raised his family, involving them in the business and instilling in them the value of hard work. He was a charter member of the Lions Club and was very active in the community. He served his country in WWII as a staff sargent in the Army Air Corps.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha and four sisters, Norma Estridge, Velma Adams, Margaret Gee and Elma Cook. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet, his children, Frank Patterson, Karen Patterson, Patty Karacia, Kathy (Barry) Ernst, Judith Patterson, Debbie (Terry) Laber and Maria (Phil) Agonston, Step children, Susan (Bob) Cook, Brian Aller, Kathy (Jim) Karwel and 25 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and a sister, Willow Mae Spence.
The family is grateful to the staff at Walnut Creek Nursing Center for their exceptional care and compassion. A funeral service will take place on Friday Dec 9, 2011 at 10:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 3940 Kettering Blvd, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior from 9:00-10:00 am. Burial to follow at Greenville Cemetery.
