Tom Shafer, Sr.
March 20, 1929 — October 19, 2013
Thomas Russell Shafer, Sr., age 84, passed away Saturday, October 19th in Beavercreek, Ohio, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Tom, born on March 20, 1929, in Bluefield, West Virginia, was a Korean War and Air Force veteran. After serving his country for 35 years, Tom retired to a life of camping, fishing, gardening, tinkering, and spending time with family.
He leaves behind Norma (Linville), his loving wife of 57 years; his daughter Tracie and her partner Greg Morelock; his son Tom Jr. and his wife Jane; his youngest son Robert; and his very special dogfriend Cole.
The family will receive Tom's friends at Newcomer Funeral Home (Beavercreek) from 11 to 1 on Wednesday, October 23rd.
A brief service will follow, then Tom will be laid to rest at Valley View Memorial Gardens in Xenia, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to any charitable organization in Tom's name.
